The Handy Digital Camera Dictionary For Beginner Freelance Photographers in Dubai

The Handy Digital Camera Dictionary For Beginner Freelance Photographers in Dubai

Nearly every human desires to capture moments they would cherish forever. Countless iconic photographs continue influencing our way of thinking. However, not everyone understands all that involves the digital camera. We are going to explain a few concepts about digital photography while focusing on digital cameras. Eventually, this post should help give your career a solid foundation, especially as a freelance photographer in Dubai.

Even though the art of photography is complex and may require you to dedicate many hours of devoted study, knowing the basic elements around the digital camera will give you a head start in the industry. For starters, we are assuming that you are already aware of terms such as landscape, portrait, selfie, and lenses. Therefore, we will be focusing on simplifying the more complex aspects of this tool of the trade.

The Digital Camera Cross-section

Understanding the digital camera begins with mastering the principles of digital photography. Traditional film photography relied on a source of light striking the lens to form a negative image on the film’s plane. While digital photography is completely different, it still depends on similar principles of light. You can get a great explanation of digital photography in a way that everyone understands through the internet.

However, for the sake of this post, the simplest description is that digital photography does not form a negative image. Instead, it creates a copy of what is visible through the camera lens. Therefore, every digital camera carries either a CCD or CMOS sensor, which replaces the negative.

The sensor decides the quality of megapixels in a digital camera. Each megapixel records;

  • The amount of light
  • The full-color spectrum

After a megapixel recording the two elements, it converts the details into an image.

What is in a megapixel?

If you are making a picture using the template of a football pitch, you will first need millions of square blocks containing all the 256 colors, including the spectrum shades. If you were to stand on this pitch, it is not going to look like a photograph, but countless squares. Nevertheless, flying over the pitch at height will start creating a good impression.

Therefore, the following is what you ought to do when using photo-editing software like Adobe Photoshop;

  • Standing on the football pitch
  • Redesigning the shade, color, and tone of individual blocks
  • Flying over the football field again to see how the image looks

You don’t have to worry about editing pixels individually because the software takes care of all the hard work. You shouldn’t overrule altering individual pixels for serious work. By doing so, your transition to digital photography will be easier.

Digital Camera Sensors

  1. CCD Sensor: The charge-coupled device or CCD uses electrical charges to record photons in each pixel or photosite. Digital cameras have a built-in amplifier that transforms an analog signal to a digital one. The camera then stores the digital signal on an external recording device or a memory card.

  2. CMOS Sensor: The complementary metal-oxide semiconductors or CMOS sensors have a slightly different working principle, although with enhanced efficiency. In the place of electrical charges, a CMOS sensor has a solid-state circuitry in each pixel allowing for instant image processing on the camera sensor. The metal-oxide-semiconductor permits access and image processing on individual photosites.

How many megapixels do you need?

Determining the right megapixel value is not about the number of pixels on the sensor, for example, 8, 16, or 32MP, but the size of the sensor. The sensor builds a bigger and clearer enlargement. For instance, the 8-MP CMOS sensor will produce better results than a sensor on a 12-MP smartphone or a compact digital camera.

Assuming that the camera sensor is a net, then each of the countless square boxes is pixels. Now let us compare two nets each containing 24 squares. The squares are identical, measuring 4 high by 6 long, but the nets have different lengths of 6-inches and 12-inches respectively. Twenty-four squares on a 12-inch net would stretch longer than the same squares would do on a 6-inch net.

Choosing The Right Digital Camera

When shopping for the best digital camera, here is what to expect from the various models;

  • Digital Compact Cameras – have the smallest sensors
  • Semi-Pro DSLRs – bigger than digital compact sensors
  • Professional DSLRs – Have standard, 35mm film sensors

The DSLR camera is among the best models in the market today because it carries;

  • Plenty of advanced features
  • A switchable lens mount
  • A decent size of an image sensor

Apart from trying to figure out the best DSLR camera for a beginner, you will be looking for a host of other features before purchasing one.

  • Exposure and Compensation

    Light intensity on the subject determines the quality of the shot. Exposure means the lightness or darkness in an image. The camera creates an image by exposing the sensor to light. A dark picture is underexposed or a result of exposure to insufficient light. On the other hand, the alight picture is overexposed or a product of exposure to too much light.
    You can use ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to control exposure. The best digital cameras allow the user to regulate the Exposure Value or EV. This way, you can give a negative value like -1EV to decrease exposure or positive value such as +1EV to increase it. A greater level of control over the EV results in perfect shots despite the bad lighting condition.

  • High Dynamic Range Cameras

    You will want to find a decent HDR camera for a stable start of your freelance photography business. The majority of smartphones today have a high dynamic range feature. The feature allows the camera to capture a wide range of colors with a precise amount of light falling on each pixel. You will see the HDR effect clearly if you look for shots with both flushed light parts and shadowy areas.

  • The Hot Shoe
    Although the hot shoe does not have any influence on photography composition rules, it is a handy provision for attaching a flashlight to your DSLR camera.

Types of DSLR Camera Lenses

DSLR cameras use different types of lenses. While some have a fixed focal length, others carry lenses with zoom functionality for capturing distant objects.

  1. The Wide Angle Lens: You cannot completely capture the subject if the object is too close to the lens. In such situations, you will need a wide-angle lens.
  2. The Telephoto Lens: Lenses that focus on distant subjects have the zoom or telephoto functionality. The focal lengths for these lenses often start from 135mm to about 1000mm.
  3. Prime Lens: You will invest in this lens if you want something with a fixed focal length. Photographers have to move around to capture images since there is no playing around with the lens.

The Bottom Line

You are familiar with the most essential functionalities of a digital camera. Remember to include the features in your assessment criteria. For the finest quality, medium format cameras have the biggest sensors. On the downside, the cameras are costly. The price factor makes the model unpopular with most beginner freelance photographers in Dubai

Content Writing Tools That Every Content Writer Must Use

Content Writing Tools That Every Content Writer Must Use

If you are a seasoned writer, then you know that a lot of time goes to the planning, research, writing, and optimization for any content. As the number of freelance content writers continues to increase, numerous mechanisms have been formulated to ease the pressure on the writers, without sacrificing the quality of work.

From outside the circle of writers, content writing appears to be a pretty simple task. After all, people know that all you do is to think of an idea and write. However, we all know the truth, and it is not as simple as it seems.

Over the last couple of years, content writing has been turned into something very delicate, especially when you want your website or business to have a broader reach. So many details, therefore, have to be included in writing not only to provide information but also to attract readers, to turn visitors into customers, and to rank high on search engines such as Google.

So how can freelance writers have all those boxes checked without having to suffer the pressure of all details? The secret, in a nutshell, lies with content writing tools. These resources have been streamlined to help the writer improve on their writing skills while still checking on the superior command of the language, minimal grammar errors, ability to attract & convert traffic into sales, and, most importantly, to help the site rank higher on search engines.

There are over 1.7 billion websites on the internet currently, with all of them trying to get more readers – ranking higher on search engines and having more traffic. The biggest trick is having relevant and optimized content posted on the website. To help you with that, you ought to have the necessary tools to ensure that you deliver top-notch content.

Using some of the best tools for freelance content writers helps you to focus more on creating and writing the content, other than spending hours trying to make visuals or proofreading the work.

There are so many content writing tools on the internet, some freely available while you have to pay cash for others. The biggest problem is that they are all screaming for your attention, with each one of them claiming to be the best.

If this is your biggest concern, then worry no more. This post will take you through the 10 best content writing tools every freelance writer ought to have.

1. Hemingway

In most cases, many people do not read an entire web article. You would be surprised to learn that about 55% of web visitors leave a website in under a minute. As a content writer, you ought to come up with articles that are engaging enough, easy to read, and gives the reader the information they are looking for within a short time.

The Hemingway editor has been a popular tool for many freelance content writers, thanks to its efficient text editing system.

It is more like a spellchecking tool, but this one is for the style. It ensures that the readers focus more on the message you are putting across and not to waste a lot of time struggling through sophisticated prose.

When you use this tool while writing, it will highlight phrases or entire sentences that seem to be too complex for the average reader and help you turn them into lucid expressions. It also suggests the correct structure for the usage of adverbs and how to turn the passive sentences into active voice.

2. Grammarly

Among some of the must-have qualities for a good content writer is excellent grammar. With Grammarly, you are sure of a text free from grammatical errors. If a word is misused or stuffed within the article, it recommends better words or synonyms to use while optimizing the content for clarity.

Apart from helping you to avoid errors, unlike other grammar-checking tools, Grammarly goes further to suggest ways on how you can tweak the sentence for readability, while consequently providing you with the scores to your goals such as readability.

English is a broad language that is used all over the continent. However, all these forms are different, even when written. This is why this tool corrects your grammar, depending on the English region you selected, e.g., British, American, or Australian.

3. HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator

You are a great writer, yes, but at times, you can run out of topic ideas to write on. If you have ever tried to brainstorm on topics for your blog, then you know how time-wasting it is. With this blog topic generator from HubSpot, you can get numerous suggestions of topics to write on.

All you will need with this content writing tool is to key in up to three focus keywords, and let the AI perform its magic. These topics are handy, and you can use them as they are for your next blog title. Furthermore, you can use the topic suggestions as a guideline for you to come up with one of your own.

4. Portent’s Content Idea Generator

Apart from writing stellar articles, there are also other skills editors need from content writers such as a good understanding of SEO and creativity. These two can be seen right from the title of the project, which can sometimes prove to be an overwhelming task, coming up with the best.

If you are ever stuck with trying to figure out what the best title for your next blog post would be, the Portent’s content idea generator should be on your bucket list. This tool helps you to come up with catchy titles or blog topic suggestions.

Just like the HubSpot’s blog topic generator, this resource from Portent is also rather simple to use – only paste your keywords, and the website provides you with a list of possible topics.

5. Evernote

Evernote is a content writing tool that helps the writers not only to gather but also to sort the information in an orderly manner. With this product, you can organize yourself as fast as possible without having to sacrifice the quality of your work.

As a content writer, you can write down a list of all the things you need, and manage your ideas & projects, all under one roof. It also has a feature that helps you to keep track of deadlines.

This product is not only useful to the writer, but also the client as they can easily communicate and share information on specific elements of the project being undertaken. Moreover, this is one of the few tools that can be easily integrated with numerous devices. This means that everything stored in Evernote can be remotely accessed from other different devices, without losing the data.

6. Ilys

Developers are coming up with new ways every day to help content writers overcome the writers’ block. This tool provides you with an awesome experience, unlike no other. At the beginning of the writing, all that you have to do is to set a word count limit, and you begin typing to the void of the screen.

However, there is a catch. Only the last character that you typed will be shown to you on the monitor. There is a progress bar at the top of the screen that shows you how far you have gone and how many more words you need to write to reach your target.

It sounds weird, but very much worth it.

7. Calmly Writer

Well-known text processors such as Word are good and powerful. However, for a professional content writer, they might not be the best text editor. This is why the Calmly writer came to being, with its primary focus on content writers.

This is a streamlined application with a simplistic design and only essential options. As soon as you begin writing, all the distracting options disappear. The design is highly responsive, and just like many other editors, its contents can also be backed up seamlessly.

One cool feature is the focus mode, where only the paragraph you are working on is shown while others become blurry.

8. Copyscape

Plagiarism is never accepted when submitting or publishing articles. This is because the search engine algorithm tends to ‘punish’ those websites without original content posted. To save yourself all the trouble, you need to put your work through a plagiarism checker and edit the copied parts.

Copyscape is one of the essential tools every writer should own. It is trusted by millions worldwide, thanks to its superior methods of fishing out parts that have been lifted from another website. It is also pretty simple to use – you just have to paste the URL of the post or the document onto the interface, and it will give you the full results.

Plagiarized parts are highlighted, and you can easily change the wording for a plagiarism-free article.

9. Ideaflip

Brainstorming on an idea to write on can sometimes be a daunting experience. In most cases, you first have to write the ideas on a piece of paper before you start crossing them out.

As opposed to this, Ideaflip is an essential tool you can use to note down, manage, and eventually materialize your ideas, in an interactive environment. All visual constraints are also removed, to help you to focus more on making your ideas spring to life.

10. Google Trends

 If you wish to receive quality traffic and links to your site, then you ought to know of the trending keywords in your field or region. You can compare the popularity of two to three keywords, and you will come up with one that has a bigger search volume. This is especially crucial if you are in the search for the best seasonal terms.

Bottom Line

 There are many other equally useful apps, but these ten are must-have tools for content writers. Before subscribing to any of them, it is always advisable to go through their terms and conditions, besides knowing their plans.

Being a writer involves a long journey of exploration, even for some of the most qualified freelance content writers. We hope these tools will give your freelance content writing career the much-needed boost.

The 7 Tasks Every Company in the UAE Should Outsource to Freelancers

The 7 Tasks Every Company in the UAE Should Outsource to Freelancers

Talking facts; every company out there wants to make more profit. While doing so, they want to ensure that much of their time is dedicated to the most important things that only they will accomplish better. Ever heard of the famous phrase, “I have too much work to do but I do not trust anyone else to do.” If you are one such people do not worry, there are more than a million of you. Lucky for you, you no longer have to get concerned about whether or not to outsource such tasks as there are highly-qualified freelancers in the UAE that you can trust.

Why Would You Outsource These Tasks?

Generally, there are many reasons as to why companies in the UAE should pass some tedious tasks to freelancers. Apart from saving on your finances, freelancers can also produce astonishing results. This is attributed to the fact that they have majored in delivering such services. Some of the other reasons why companies or other people delegate their tasks to other freelancers might include;

  • Your company is growing pretty fast and the workload is off the roof. If you fail to deliver certain projects on time due to unavoidable circumstances such as sickness, it could mean disaster!
  • You do not have the level of expertise required to carry out a task. You might have a design boutique but you have not specialized in some fields. This forces you to hire a freelancer who has specialized in that field.
  • A particular task might be part of your job description but you just do not like it. In other words, you hate doing it. Since you do not want to completely do away with the service, or it is directly related to something you love working on, freelancers are your best shot.

Here are comprehensive details of the tedious tasks which companies in the UAE can give to freelancers;

1. Content writing

Any business, wherever it is, needs content for their marketing pages and website. Posting new content to your platforms on a very regular basis can become daunting at first as it is quite hard to juggle between your career and writing content. Furthermore, content writing needs skill and is one of the most tedious tasks freelancers can work on.

This is why it is advisable to outsource content writers. Managing content writers is very simple. As long as you provide them with all the guidelines that need to be followed, they will produce results that are more favorable to you.

2. Web development

Web development needs skill and a lot of experience when coming up with a professional website. If you own a hospital or a business which will ideally take up much of your time, web development should not be one of your greatest concerns. 3. Photography

The world is constantly changing and everything is improving and advancing. The type of photography that is appreciated at this age was not the one which people loved 10 or so years ago. In order to sell your products or brand in the UAE, you better have those stunning photos speaking out for you. Investing in good photography and an experienced photographer should be on top of your priorities list.

Not all companies can manage to hire a full-time photographer or have the funds to invest in good photography equipment. That is why the majority of high-ranking companies in the UAE hire the services of such photographers. Doing so eventually improves its brand visibility and saves them tons of money in the long run.

4. Videography

Videography is more or less related to photography. However, these are two different fields of work. While they both help in building a brand’s visibility, videography needs a more experienced skill set. The equipment used might be more expensive. Videos help brands to easily pass their messages.
